Major General Peter Milyuhin was wounded during the battle for liberation of Palmyra in Syria. Milyuhin is the head of the combat training of staff of the Western Military District, and he was taken to the intensive care unit of the Main Military Clinical Hospital named after Nikolay Nilovich Burdenko (founder of Russian neurosurgery).
Earlier, some media reported that Milyuhin was injured about a week ago during the battle for liberation of Palmyra.
Military command refused to provide any details about the incident of injury regarding the Major General.
Palmyra, one of the richest centers of ancient civilization, was under the control of the terrorist group "Islamic State" since May 2015. The Syrian army, with the support of the Russian aviation liberated the city in March 2016. In December, gunmen from IS recaptured Palmyra and destroyed part of its monuments. A second time in March 2017 it became known that the Syrian military, with the support of the Russian aircraft for the second time, took Palmyra, forcing ISIS militants to retreat.
