Ex-Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and his entourage will be officially included on the list of persons banned from entering the Donetsk People’s Republic. This was announced today by DPR head Alexander Zakharchenko at a press conference in Donetsk.

“Where was the president in 2014? First he sat in Kharkov and then he fled to Russia. There was no president during the assault on Debaltsevo nor for anything that relates to the DPR,” Zakharchenko recalled.

“As for Yanukovych, Klimenko, Arbuzov, Azarov, the Zakharchenko sharing my surname, and others, we are putting them on the list of those banned from entering the DPR. We have nothing to do with traitors,” the leader of the republic declared.

The head of the DPR’s parliament, Denis Pushilin, commented:

“I absolutely agree with Alexander Vladimirovich Zakharchenko’s opinion. For us, for our citizens, it is clear who was with them when things were tough in 2014, in early 2015, and who is now building and raising the economy. Hence why any mention of the topic of Yanukovych returning draws extreme criticism on social networks. Of course, I understand our citizens and support them. In 2014 it was possible to avoid the war and avoid the bloodshed - as a result there would not have been tens of thousands of our citizens dead, tens of thousands of destroyed homes,  schools, and kindergartens. the situation could have unfolded completely differently. After three years of conflict, we can say that the situation is improving and is going towards its logical conclusion. So saying that someone is ready to come and lead is perhaps not quite appropriate.”

Zakharchenko added:

“If there had been a statement that Yanukovych will appear in Kiev, this would be appropriate, since Kiev is the point from which he fled, and the point to which he should return. Donetsk has nothing to do with any of this. He wasn’t thrown out of office here, cars weren’t shot up here and tires weren’t burned under windows. If in 2013-2014 Yanukovych had been wise and not even asked for military help from the Russian Federation, but simply given weapons to Donbass, then there wouldn’t have been 2015 and 2016. None of this would have happened. They could have dispersed the Maidan in two hours. Maybe the 2,000 citizens on the Maidan would have been killed, but not the tens of thousands that have died over the past three years. He did not act like a true president, and now he is trying to return - well go ahead, to Kharkov or Zaporozhye, but not to us.”
