Abadi Decries HRW Accusations on Collective Punishment - Like This Article

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al Abadi, has urged the international “humanitarian” organizations to start providing information, obtained from legitimate sources, as regards the situation in Iraq, stressing that his government would never use means of collective punishment against civilians. 

During the weekly press conference, Abadi noted that certain humanitarian organisations issued reports which are not only false, but even openly encourage terrorists to commit acts of violence against civilians.

“We are in a desperate need of community reconciliation schemes in order to thwart terrorism problem for good. We are aware of those who are trying to stir this up”, said Abadi, adding that there is no way his forces would ever be involved in any type of collective punishment.

A few days ago, the humanitarian organisation Human Rights Watch accused the Iraqi security forces of reportedly transferring about 170 families whose members were involved in ISIS to a “rehabilitation camp”, located east of Mosul, while noting that these families could now become targets of excessive violence and means of collective punishment. 

For its part, the US Department of Defense issued a statement on Monday, saying it could not confirm reports of the alleged excessive use of force by the Iraqi security forces, while liberating the city of Mosul from the hands of the terrorist group ISIS.
