The US Senate has not supported a “skinny” repeal of the previous administration’s healthcare law, the Affordable Care Act (ACA), otherwise known as “Obamacare.”

The repeal failed by a narrow margin of 59-49.

At least three Republican senators decided to vote “no”, namely John McCain, Susan Collins, and Lisa Murkowski.

It was none other than GOP Senator John McCain, otherwise known for his staunch opposition to Obamacare, who cast the decisive vote, which eventually thwarted the repeal.

The failure to repeal Obamacare in the Senate is seen as a blow to the US President Donald Trump who started making plans to abolish Obamacare before he even entered the office.

Trump has already expressed his frustration on his official Twitter account.

The issue of Obamacare has long been debated in the Senate, however the voting itself had to be delayed due to John McCain’s illness.

Not long ago, McCain was diagnosed with a brain tumour.
