Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has held a telephone conversation with his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi.
The two ministers paid attention to a variety of regional issues, and especially to the ongoing crisis in Syria, agreeing that sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria must be respected in accordance with the provisions of the UN Security Council Resolution 2254.
They also discussed recent the actions taken by Russia, Jordan and the US in order to bring peace and restore stability to Syria.
On July 7th, during the G20 summit in Hamburg, Rusian, Jordanian and US officials jointly signed a de-escalation zones memorandum for the southwest of Syria, Jordanian border area including, and which came into effect on the 9th of July.
This was not the first de-escalation zones agreement brokered by Russia.
Previously, during the talks on settlement of the Syrian crisis in Astana back on the 4th of May, Russian, Iran and Turkish officials signed a deal on creating 4 major de-escalation zones within Syrian territory.
