Director of the Media Center of the Kurdish-led and US-backed separatist group Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Mustafa Bali has officially denied the rumours of existence of a gay battalion within the ranks of SDF.
He, however, said that the “Syrian Democratic Forces” deeply care for respecting human rights and personal freedoms.
His statement comes after members of a group called TQILA (The Queer Insurrection and Liberation Army), published some photos on the group’s official Twitter account, claiming they were shot in Raqqah and represent fighters of the newly formed queer battalion of SDF.
One of the banners displayed on the photos read “These faggots kill fascists.”
“Pictures of gay men who were thrown from the rooftops or beaten to death prompted us to take action and no longer just watch while being on stand by” the group said in a statement on its official page.
