US President Donald Trump has accused the Lebanese movement Hezbollah of not being loyal enough to the country.

“Lebanese Army is the only body in the country, authorized to defend Lebanon”, said the US President Donald Trump during a press conference, held at the White House in scope of the visit of the Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri.

He then complimented the Lebanese Army for making series of great achievements in recent years.

He, however, accused Hezbollah of being loyal to Iran first and not Lebanon, adding that he would speak on Wednesday about the new batch of US sanctions, aimed at the movement.

He then said that he is “not a fan” of the Syrian President Bashar Al Assad, stressing that what the latter did in Syria was “terrible.”

Trump also expressed a belief that his country made great achievements in fight against terrorism in Syria and Iraq over the past few years.

Regarding the planned US sanctions against Hezbollah, the Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri said he was in contact with the Congress officials so that an understanding could be reached.

“We hope that our partnership and cooperation in war against terror will continue and bring positive results which are highly beneficial for the region,” Hariri said at the start of the meeting with Trump, while also expressing his hope that the issue of fighting terrorism will be discussed in more detail.
