KIEV, July 26 - RIA Novosti. Ukraine has completely stopped supplying electricity to the self-proclaimed Lugansk and Donetsk Peoples Republics, said Acting Director of Ukrenergo Vsevolod Kovalchuk on his Facebook page.
According to him, "electricity to the temporarily uncontrolled areas of the Donetsk region" ceased on July 26.
Kovalchuk noted that the energy needs of these territories are covered by the Starobeshevskaya and Zuevskaya Plants, which are located in the Donetsk region and are not controlled by Kiev, as well as by other electricity producers. In addition, as Kovalchuk asserts, Russia supplies electricity to the LPR and the DPR.
The Ministry of Energy and Energy of the DPR informs Ria Novosti that Kiev's decision will not affect the residents of the republic. "The DPR is independent of Ukraine for its energy," the ministry said.
In April, Kiev stopped supplying electricity to the LPR, explaining this step on the grounds of debt. Later, Russia began supplying electricity to the republic as humanitarian aid. In the Kremlin, the cessation of energy supply in the Luhansk region was called another step by Kiev towards the cut-off of its territories.
