The European Union has announced an expansion of its sanctions against North Korea, following an international Security Council resolution imposing unprecedented economic restrictions on Pyongyang.
The sanctions include freezing assets and banning travel of North Korean officials due to “repeated violations” of UN resolutions on ballistic and nuclear weapon programs, the EU Council said in a statement which released on Thursday.
In accordance with the UN resolution, it added nine people and four entities, including a state-owned foreign trade bank, to the list of sanctions against Pyongyang.
With the latest sanctions including, the EU sanctions against North Korea now include 103 people and 57 entities.
The European Council stated that it was also working on implementing measures from other sections of the Security Council resolution, including measures to reduce the funds sent by North Korean nationals working abroad.
