The Saudis have turned to UN to help them reopen Sanaa International Airport.
Turki Bin Saleh Al Maliki, a spokesman for the anti-Yemeni Saudi-led international coalition, has urged the United Nations to help the coalition forces to ensure and maintain security of Sanaa International Airport, in order to resume commercial flights and transport of passengers and goods at the airport.
“If the United Nations are ready to provide good management of the airport and ensure security and safety of commercial flights and stop smuggling, the leadership of the Saudi-led coalition is ready to allow the resumption of airport’s operations”, said Al Maliki.
He added that the closure of Sanaa International Airport and limiting its operation to relief flights only, came due to concerns about the safety of civil and commercial flights to and from the airport, and because of the suspicion that the Houthi-led resistance movement may be using the airport for the “smuggling of weapons”, while also noting that majority of the Yemeni airports have since been relocated to the “liberated and safe areas.”
