By adopting a law on sanctions, the United States declared Russia a full-fledged trade war, putting an end to the hope of improving bilateral relations, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said.

"The signing by the US president of a new sanctions law against Russia creates several consequences: firstly, the hope for improvement of our relations with the new US administration ends: Secondly, Russia is declared a full-fledged trade war. Thirdly, the Trump administration demonstrated complete impotence, the most humiliating in this way, he transferred executive powers to Congress, which changes the alignment of forces in US political circles," he wrote on his Facebook page.

The head of government expressed confidence that the new sanctions against Moscow would last for decades and would be harsher than the restrictions that provided for the Jackson-Vanik amendment, adopted in 1974 and canceled only 38 years later.

"The sanctions regime is comprehensive and can not be postponed by special orders of the president without the consent of the congress. Thus, the relations between Russia and the US will be extremely tense regardless of the composition of the congress or the personality of the president," Medvedev said. .

Anti-Russian hysteria turned into a key part not only of foreign, but also domestic policy of the United States, while the interests of US business were almost ignored, the prime minister also noted.

"The American establishment has outright defeated Trump." - Medvedev added.

On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump signed a bill on new sanctions against Russia, Iran and North Korea. At the same time, the White House issued a statement by the American leader, which notes that the document is unsuccessful and contradicts the US Constitution. Trump also did not rule out that Washington will take steps to prevent negative consequences for US business, friends and US allies.

The press secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the adoption of the law on sanctions, noted that this does not change anything, since the document would have been implemented already. Speaking about the possibility of retaliatory measures, the press secretary reminded that they "have already been proposed."
