Masoud Barzani, the head of the Kurdistan Regional Government said 'yes' vote won in Iraqi Kurdistan independence referendum.
This is the first official statement regarding the outcome.
According to some preliminary results, 93.4% of voters voted in favour of the referendum.
Meanwhile, the Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al Abadi has given 72 hours to the Barzani clan-led Kurdsitan Regional Government (KRG) to hand over control of the airports and border crossings in the province to the central government in Baghdad, otherwise airspace and borders will be closed to the autonomous province of Kurdistan.
Al Abadi also said that KRG must immediately return all of its oil revenues and put them under control of Baghdad.
Similar measures were also taken by the neighbouring Iran and Turkey who have already closed their airspace and borders they share with the Kurdistan province.
Representatives of minority groups living in Kurdistan province said some of their people got threatened by forces of the ruling regime, and were thus forced to vote in favour of the referendum.
