Iraqi forces launch crucial operation against ISIS at Akashat in Iraq's Anbar province - Like This Article

Iraqi government forces and their allies have launched a new operation to liberate the settlement of Akashat in Iraq's western Anbar province near the border with Syria from ISIS.

In conjunction, additional forces have also been sent to Anbar province to liberate the ISIS-held towns of Rawah and Anah.

This is all part of the plan to liberate the strategic city of al-Qaim on the border with Syria. The city of around 150,000 people was captured by the terrorist group in August 2014, and is the gateway that connects ISIS-held areas of Syria to its stronghold in Anbar.

Before the start of the operation, the Iraqi airforce dropped thousands of leaflets on the Akashat and al-Qaim region to notify the civilians of the upcoming offensive by Iraqi government forces.
