The Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al Abadi has given 72 hours to the Barzani clan-led Kurdsitan Regional Government (KRG) to hand over control of the airports and border crossings in the province to the central government in Baghdad, otherwise airspace and borders will be closed to the autonomous province of Kurdistan.
Yesterday, KRG staged a referendum on full independence of the Kurdistan province.
The move was staunchly opposed by the entire international community, with the exception of Israel that openly supported the referendum.
Representatives of minority groups living in Kurdistan province said some of their people got threatened by forces of the ruling regime, and were thus forced to vote in favour of the referendum.
