"It is time for the UN structures to take the path of objectivity in the Crimean issue." This opinion was expressed by the head of the State Committee of the Crimean government on affairs of interethnic relations, Zaur Smirnov. According to him, it is necessary to prohibit UN missions from replicating unverified reports accusing Russia of human rights violations in the Crimea.
"It's time for the UN to be more demanding of the information voiced by the various monitoring missions," Smirnov stressed. "We call for taking the path of objectivity towards the Crimeans and adhering to only proven facts."
The last report of the monitoring mission of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights states that human rights in the Crimea were violated in large numbers after its accession to the Russian Federation. At the same time, the missions note that they did not have access to the territory of Crimea and their assessment of the human rights situation on the peninsula was carried out remotely, from Ukraine.
