19 people have been arrested, many of them trying to flee the country, by Venezuelan authorities on the charges of corruption and embezzlement in the country's oil industry, Attorney General Tarek William Saab revealed.

Many of the arrested, some who on Wednesday tried to leave the country on a private flight before being arrested, include businessmen and state officials.

Some of the charges include irregularities, acts of sabotage, breaches of contracts and premidated maintenance delays.

Saab also revealed that has arrest warrants for other individuals involved in other corruption scandals.

“For those cases we have reached out to Interpol... We believe that those involved in organized crime, which has caused serious damage to Venezuela, cannot guise themselves as persecuted politicians,” he said while speaking to VTV.
