Former French foreign minister Roland Dumas will visit Syria next month, Le Figaro reports.

The French newspaper quoted Syrian and French sources as saying that the former French foreign minister will visit Damascus on November 6-7th where he will meet with the Syrian President Bashar Al Assad.

Le Figaro contributor George Malbrunot has described the visit as “private”, while quoting a source close to Dumas as saying that the latter would also meet with the Lebanese President Michel Aoun during his brief tour where he will be accompanied by two other delegates.

The visit comes in time when diplomatic relations between France and Syria are completely strained.

Over the past few years, Doumas has made several appearances in the media, often saying that what was happening in Syria was prepared and planned in advance, pointing out that the United Kingdom equipped the jihadists with the purpose of invading Syria.

The 95-year-old would explain that those who were pulling the strings of the events in Syria were aiming to overthrow the Syrian government because of its hostile position to Israel, reminding how one of the former Israeli prime ministers once told him that whoever does not agree with Israel, will eventually be toppled.
