Russian and Western media outlets quoted unnamed diplomats as saying that the international investigators on chemical weapons will soon head to the Shayrat Air Base in the Syrian province of Homs, the very same one from which the planes that the western media (despite lacking any evidence) blames for carrying out a chemical assault on the town of Khan Sheikhoun, took off.
The media, quoting unnamed diplomatic sources, said the investigators went to Damascus on Monday and were supposed to visit the Shayrat Air Base.
According to the sources, the investigators will visit the base in the scope of the international investigation mission on the usage of chemical weapons in Syria, set up by the joint committee of the United Nations and the International Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).
The visit comes in the wake of the staunch Russian criticism of the OPCW due to being biased when approaching the issue.
It is noteworthy that in the past the OPCW investigators never visited the supposedly affected site, despite having countless opportunities and safety offered by the authorities in Damascus.
The media quoted analysts as saying that western diplomats were afraid Damascus could turn the Khan Sheikhoun visit to its advantage.
It was also discovered that prohibited poisonous gas was stored in the vicinity of the town which is under full control of the US/EU-backed jihadist groups, meaning the authorities in Damascus have no control over the area.
According to Syrian and Russian military sources, no plane carried out any raids in Khan Sheikhoun on April 4th, the day when the alleged chemical attack took place.
