The Iraqi Forces established control over the town of Rabia and the nearby border crossing between Iraq and Syria, following the withdrawal of the Kurdish Peshmerga forces.
The head of the Badr Organization, Hadi Amiri, said that the latest achievement of the Iraqi Forces completes the second phase of operations, aimed at restoring control of the oil fields located north of Kirkuk.
The Iraqi flags can already be seen flying from the govenrment facilities in town.
In a related context, sources from the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), Iraq’s largest paramilitary group, said PMU and Peshmerga made an agreement according to which PMU will assume control on three axes in Nineveh province after the withdrawal of Peshmerga units.
On Wednesday, the Iraqi Army has made an official announcement, saying its mission to restore security and stability to Kirkuk province is now accomplished.
Thus, the Iraqi Forces once again control all the oil fields, airports and government facilities in the province.
On Sunday, the joint coalition of the Iraqi Forces consisting of the Iraqi Army and the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) began a military campaign to liberate Kirkuk from the Peshmerga, the military force of the Iraqi Autonomous province of Kurdistan that has held the city under occupation since June 2014.
The next day, the Iraqi Forces managed to liberate the oil-rich city of Kirkuk, following the withdrawal of Peshmerga troops who also lost several of its combatants in clashes with the PMU.
