Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said that Turkey, a country which is participating in the Astana process on the settlement of the Syrian crisis and also acts as one of the guarantor states of de-escalation zones agreement for Syria, is coordinating its work in Syria with Russia.
Regarding the position of Moscow on the Turkish attempt to strike a deal with the Al Qaeda-linked terrorist group Hay’at Tahrir Al Sham (Al Nusra Front), Peskov said that Turkey, as a guarantor state is responsible for ensuring security in de-escalation areas in Syria, adding that the question of the supposed Turkish cooperation with the notorious terrorist group should be addressed to the Russian Ministry of Defense.
When asked if Turkey was coordinating with Russia on Syria, Peskov said that so far Turkey has coordinated with Russia and has not breached the de-escalation zones agreement.
It is noteworthy that Damascus strongly objects to the presence of the Turkish Army on its soil, especially because Turkey is still providing covert support for the terrorist groups fighting against the Syrian Forces.
