Ali Akbar Salehi, the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, said his country will do everything to keep the nuclear deal in power, but not at every price.
“The Iranian commission supervising the implementation of the nuclear deal examined all possible options to respond to Trump's possible decision on thwarting the deal in the most appropriate way that suits the circumstances and developments”, Salehi said after the meeting with the British Foreign Minister Boris Johnson yesterday in London.
“As we have already said there are only two options: either all of the parties withdraw from the deal or remain committed to it. We would of course prefer the latter option, though not at any price”, he added.
Salehi said that hampering the nuclear deal by the US President Donald Trump would lead to an international outrage.
He, however, noted that some of the European countries might eventually side with US on the issue, pointing out that the nuclear deal serves as a role model for successfully solving international issues through peaceful ways of diplomacy.
Regarding the position of the British side on the issue, Salehi said that Britain had called for the need to keep the nuclear deal in place.
“The British said they will do their best as regards the issue through series of bilateral talks with their American partners”, Salehi said.
He also said the US sanctions against the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) mean a declaration of war against the country.
For his part, the British Foreign Minister said his government told Washington many times that the nuclear deal shall remain in power at all costs.
