Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro thanked the U.S. president for "making him famous" during a televised state address.
"It’s an honor that the head of the empire mentions me every day," the Venezuelan president.
"He has made me famous around the world. Every time he mentions me, they love me more," Maduro added.
He went onto acknowledge that Trump's attacks against Venezuela has helped the country forge closer relations with states with hostile relations with the U.S. such as Russia, Belarus and Turkey.
"Donald Trump has become the head of the Venezuelan opposition," Maduro continued.
"A whole new world is opening up for Venezuela thanks to Trump’s sanctions," referring to the U.S-imposed sanctions.
