Thousands of public sector workers took to the streets of Brazil's largest city, Sao Paulo on Friday to protest against state Governor Geraldo Alckmin’s plans.
Alckmin plans to freeze investment in health and education for the next two years.
"I'm here protesting against Alckmin and his will to freeze what we earned (1190.00 BRL; 36 USD) and he wants to freeze for two years and that's not fair and even pay us a food stamp of 160 BRL; 49 USD a month," Maria Conceicao Vieira, a protester, explained in Portuguese.
"So what he wants is slavery and we have to protest that," she continued.
Meanwhile, Sueli de Oliveira, another protester said in Portuguese that: "We are living a coup in Brazil and this coup came to take away all the rights of the working class with privatisations of pensions, work reforms, reform of middle education, public workers and we have to straighten our spirits. We have to be united against this attack on our rights and all that damages the working class."
