Damascus, Syria - The city of Deir Ezzor in Syria's east has finally been fully liberated from the ISIS terrorist organisation.
“The Syrian Army managed to fully secure the eastern city of Deir Ezzor after expelling ISIS militants from its last neighborhoods inside the city,” a Syrian military official said in a statement.
This is part of a wider operation to completely defeat ISIS in this part of Syria.
Meanwhile, Iraqi forces are conducting a simultaneous operation against the terrorist force in Anbar province.
Neighboring Anbar and Deir Ezzor provinces are considered the heartland of ISIS where it enjoys the most popular support from the local populations.
