MOSCOW, Russia. The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed that six aircrafts took off from Russia and flew all the way to the eastern Syrian province of Deir Ez Zour, crossing territories of Iran and Iraq, before directing several air strikes against the positions of the terrorist group ISIS in the vicinity of the Syrian town of Abu Kamal, the last remaining ISIS hub in Deir Ez Zour province.

According to the Ministry, the Russian long-range supersonic strategic bombers Tupolev Tu-22M3 targeted several key positions of ISIS, particularly those where the terrorists store their weapons and ammunition, adding that strategic bombers were also receiving support from Sukhoi Su-30 jets that took off from an airport in Syria.

The Ministry noted that all of the aircrafts have since safely returned to their bases.

The strikes come a day after Russian Defense Ministry said that the submarine Veliki Novgorod targeted ISIS positions in the eastern Syrian province of Deir Ez Zour with Kalibr strategic missiles, hitting several important ISIS sites.
