ALBUKAMAL, Syria - A Hezbollah-affiliated news outlet claimed on Friday that ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was in the eastern Syrian town of Albukamal during the operation by the Syrian army, Hezbollah and Iranian-organised militias to clear it.
There were earlier reports that prior to the liberation of Al-Qaim, directly opposite Albukamal but on the Iraqi side of the border, Baghdadi resided in the city before Iraqi forces conducted their operations.
Albukamal was the last major settlement occupied by the terrorist organisation, and without Baghdadi captured, it is thought he is hiding somewhere in the vast deserts of Syria.
However with the rapid collapse of ISIS it is expected that it is only a matter of time before the terrorist leader is captured.
