Apostolic Vicar of Aleppo on Trump missile attack: "Only the jihadists benefit" - Like This Article

The night Donald Trump ordered an attack the Syrian base that the planes supposedly launched from, laden with chemical weapons, the apostolic vicar of Aleppo expressed his anger to tempi.it: "Only the jihadists benefit"

"It's always the same story. They did the same thing in Iraq, Libya, and now in Syria. Unfortunately, the US hypocrisy never changes."

Georges Abou Khazen, Aleppo's apostolic vicar, is anxious and angry, commenting to tempi.it about the missile attack that night with which the United States inflicted "heavy damage" at the Syrian base of Al Shayrat, where, according to US intelligence, Bashar al-Assad's jets launched with their chemical weapons.

At 2.30 pm (Italian time), the US president ordered the attack on the Syrian base with 59 Tomahawk missiles, causing at least six fatalities.

Immediately after the attack, Donald Trump briefly stated in front of the cameras that the action was to be a response to the horrible chemical attack against innocent civilians; "Using a deadly nerve gas, Assad has torn the lives of men, women, and children."

As tempi.it has already reported, the supposed attack took place in Idlib, but the sources that certify Assad's guilt, and the consequences of the attack are very dubious, being in territory entirely controlled by Islamic terrorists.

"The chemical attack is just an excuse," the apostolic vicar continues, "if they wanted to know what really happened, why didn't they send a commission? Why didn't they send a team to figure out who was responsible?"

After the chemical attack on Ghouta in 2013, which all but triggered an invasion of Syria by the United States, the commission of inquiry had established that the perpetrators could as well have been the rebels, and the final report of the OPCW (Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons) presented in December 2015, excluded any compatibility between the Sarin gas used in August 2013 and that transferred from Syrian deposits and destroyed under the control of the organization.

"We need to ask ourselves: who does this chemical attack play out for?" Monsignor Abou Khazen does not relent. "Who benefits? Not Syria, not Assad, but only the jihadists. And they only present what they want people to see, they have all the propaganda in their hands, and the whole world gets behind them."

The city of Aleppo has recently been freed from the siege of the terrorists (December 2016), but there is no peace for Syria: "I have always said: We cannot sing any song of victory because with Americans one has to expect everything. Why do they want to do our deciding for us? Why don't they let the Syrian people choose who they want to be governed by?"

After the great fear of the night the Syrian people are "outraged, sad. What am I supposed to say? We all can thank the Americans and the British, also because Isis has just started to attack nearby. It is perhaps no coincidence. The truth is that the Americans want to get to the oil and gas fields. And it is not the first time that they attack us: when they attacked the nearby power station, that we could not yet fix again, did anyone protest? No, no one opened his mouth. And is not it a crime? What is it, some humanitarian act? "
