Former Russian State Duma deputy Denis Voronenkov has been murdered in Kiev. He was shot in the center of the Ukrainian capital.

In Kiev, a former State Duma deputy Denis Voronenkov was killed, the Ukrainian edition of Vesti reported, referring to Verkhovna Rada deputy Vadim Rabinovich.

The murder occurred at 11:30 at the crossroads of Taras Shevchenko and Pushkinskaya streets," the ministry said. The police confirmed that the murdered man was Voronenkov. According to Vesti, the killer is one of the wounded.

RBC obtained further confirmation of the murder from Ilya Ponomarev, another former State Duma deputy who also emigrated to Ukraine. In his Facebook page he said that the deceased was on his way to meeting him. When asked about who would be behind the crime, Ponomarev said "obviously everyone."

According to Vesti-Ukraina, the shooting began after Voronenkov left the Premier Palace Hotel with a bodyguard. The bodyguard defended the former deputy from the shooter, who was lying in wait for them. As a result, both the bodyguard and the killer were injured. Both have been hospitalized.
