Iraqi Forces have reached the old city of Mosul, following an intense battle with ISIS terrorists.

According to the field reports, the Iraqi Forces were able to take control of the Amil district, located within the Mosul’s old city, thus freeing half of the eastern side of Mosul. This is a very important achievement, as nearly all governmental and provincial buildings are located there.

Evacuation of the families, that were formerly besieged by ISIS, has already begun. So far more than 1000 families were evacuated. In order to achieve their freedom, they first had to cross a 3 km distance from Nabi Sheeth district towards Al Aqidiyat in order to finally reach the Freedom Bridge, while constantly avoiding ISIS mortars that were being fired at them while fleeing.
The Commander of the “We Are Coming, for you Nineveh” operation, Lieutenant General Abdel Amir Yarallah, announced that the Iraqi Forces liberated the neighborhoods of  Al Mualmeen, Al Silo, in the western side of Mosul and already raised the Iraqi flag over Mbanehma, earlier on Thursday.

An official from the US Department of Defense yesterday said that Al Baghdadi fled Mosul shortly before the Iraqi forces besieged the city, likely to consult with the local ISIS leaders and determine new strategy now that the situation has changed in the favour of Iraqi Forces.

Iraqi sources estimate that Al Baghdadi could be located somewhere between the Syrian-Iraqi-Turkish border triangle or near Al Baaj, a town located at the Syrian Border in Nineveh Province.
