Lugansk People’s Republic leader Igor Plotnitsky has stated that Russia’s decision to recognize the republics’ citizens’ documents is “social” for Moscow but “political” for the LPR.
According to the leader of the republic, Russia’s recognition of LPR documents allows a number of citizens’ problems to be resolved. “Such a decision solves a number of questions and relieves many issues which we had with taking children to summer camps, acquiring passports, and so on,” Poroshenko is quoted as saying by Lugansk Information Center.
However, according to Plotnitsky, this decision by the leadership of the Russian Federation has another dimension which is extremely important for LPR citizens. “Such a decision is social from the point of view of the Russian Federation, but it has a political accent and motive for us.”
Back on February 18th, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree that Russia recognize DPR and LPR documents. Russia’s foreign minister, Sergey Lavrov, subsequently said that Russia’s leaders were guided in doing so by “purely humanitarian considerations.”
