The Supreme Eurasian Economic Council has given the green light to grant Moldova observer-state status in the Eurasian Economic Union, Kyrgyzstan President Almazbek Atambaev announced during an extended meeting of the council on April 14th.
The meeting was attended by all five leaders of the Eurasian Economic Union’s countries - Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, Belorussia’s Alexander Lukashenko, Kazakhstan’s Nursultan Nazarbayev, Armenia’s Serzh Sargsyan, and Kyrgyzstan’s Almazbek Atambaev. Moldova’s President Igor Dodon also took part in the council.
Dodon earlier appealed to the union to give his country observer status. According to Atambaev, the Eurasian Economic Commission will submit Moldova’s status approval to be finalized at the next meeting.
The Eurasian Economic Union is an international integration union created on the basis of the Customs Union and Eurasian Economic Space. It has been operating since January 1st, 2015.
