Syrian Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid Mouallem assured that his country would never use chemical weapons, not even against the terrorists who are killing civilians.
During a press conference, held at the Foreign and Expatriates Ministry headquarters in Damascus, Mouallem said that Syrian authorities condemn the chemical assault in Khan Sheikhoun, adding that Israel is likely to be the beneficiary of the new anti-Syrian media campaign.
He noted that the Khan Sheikhoun incident occurred right in time when a major progress in reconciliation process and fight against terrorists around Hama and Idleb was made, stressing that lies are the last thing terrorists can resort to, following their demise on the battlefield.
He also said that there is evidence that the terrorist groups continue to store chemical weapons in residential areas and that his country already informed the United Nations about the chemicals that were illegally transported to the terrorists in Syria from Turkey.
Previously, western governments and media accused the Syrian authorities of using chemical weapons in Khan Sheikhoun, showing photos and videos of civilians that allegedly died of intoxication, while blaming Damascus to be behind the incident. The latter has since responded and refuted the accusations.
"It is normal not to present exact information just an hour after the incident, however, it is not normal how they immediately pointed finger at us," Mouallem added.
When asked about Damascus’ acceptance of an independent international investigation about the use of chemical weapons, Mouallem said that his country's experience with international commissions and their inquiries is not encouraging, adding that Damascus submitted "hundreds of papers" to the UN Security Council and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons", regarding the use and storage of chemical weapons by terrorists.
Before finishing his speech, Mouallem hinted at the possibility of existence of a Turkish-Israeli coordination at the fronts of Jobar and northern Hama.
He then concluded by saying" the main beneficiary of each shot fired at the Syrian, Egyptian or Iraqi Army under the false pretext of freedom, which Syrian people, along with the federalization plan, reject, is Israel.”
