Moscow has responded to the latest provocative attempts by the US of issuing new sanctions against Russia, and which were previously described as an “attempt of blackmail aimed at restricting trade cooperation.”

Today, the Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement, calling on the US side to reduce the number of US diplomats on Russian territory to 455 people, thus similar to the number of Russian diplomats currently working on US territory.

The Ministry said that the process of reducing the number of diplomats shall be completed by September 1st, and is primarily aimed at diplomatic staff and technical personnel, working at the US Embassy in Moscow and the general consulates in St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg and Vladivostok.

Moscow has also warned the US that should it decide to expel any Russian diplomats from its territory, these unilateral steps will be reciprocated similarly.

Starting with August 1st, the US Embassy in Moscow will no longer be able to access its storage facilities on Dorozhnaya Street in Moscow, in addition to the summer cottage in Serebryaniy Bor, located west of Moscow.

“Based on the principle of reciprocity, we reserve the right to take measures that may affect American interests” , the Ministry said in a statement.
