Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Rogozin commented on reports of North Korea "copying" Ukrainian rocket engines. According to him, it is impossible to do this without specialists from Ukraine.

"What do they mean 'copies of engines'? It's not a painting or a sculpture. In order to make a "copy," you must have either the original engine or its detailed drawings. Yes, and without Ukrainian specialists, capable and ready to deploy production on a foreign technological platform, this can not be done. It comes down to a matter of smuggling in order to bypass all existing international bans," he said on his Twitter page:

Earlier, journalists reported that the DPRK was using Ukrainian missiles. The New York Times reports that authorities in the DPRK nuclear program are primarily obliged to Ukraine, citing a new report of the International Institute for Strategic Studies and Intelligence Services. 

Journalists write that North Korea managed to deal with the leadership of the Ukrainian Yuzhmash. (Южный Машиностроительный Завод, Southern Machine Construction Plant) It was there that rockets and engines were assembled. The management of "Yuzhmash" has gone to such cooperation, having lost its Russian partners after the coup in Ukraine in 2014, the newspaper writes.

In turn, the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Turchinov said that Ukraine did not supply weapons and military technology to Korea, and that the false information disseminated by the media about the alleged transfer of DPRK missile technologies from Yuzhmash is most likely provoked by Russian special services.


The company Yuzhmash denied this information, and the designer of the Yuzhnoye Design Bureau Alexander Degtyarev suggested that some other country managed to copy the Ukrainian engines.
