The National Trade Union of Journalists of Ukraine recorded more than 40 cases of mass media beatings in the first half of the year, during the execution of their professional duties, said the head of the trade union Tomilenko.

"In our country and in peaceful places, journalists during the execution of professional duties cannot be assured that they will not be subjected to physical aggression. According to our records, only in the first half of this year there are more than 40 cases of journalists getting beaten, physical aggression on reporters," said Tomilenko.

According to him, the attackers generally go unpunished, which encourages physical aggression towards journalists. At the same time, the Ukrainian trade union of journalists reported on its website on Monday that it has registered seven cases of force used against workers in the media.

We recall that in Ukraine there have been numerous murders of journalists. In Kiev on July 20, 2016 the journalist Pavel Sheremet was killed by a car bomb. April 18 marked two years since the murder of Oles Buzina. All of them were posthumously awarded the Order of Courage.

On April 26, it became known that Ukraine ranked 102 out of 180 in the new rating of freedom of speech from "Reporters without Borders" after such countries as Mongolia, Sierra Leone, Kenya, Madagascar, Kyrgyzstan
