Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov called on all parties involved in the ongoing Korean crisis to do all they can to avoid militarization and escalation of the current tensions that might negatively impact the whole region.
During the meeting with his North Korean counterpart Ri Yong-ho in the scope of the 50th ASEAN Forum in Manila, Lavrov expressed hope that tensions will eventually cool off and that the forum as such will provide for an opportunity to solve some of the issues.
Regarding relations with North Korea, Lavrov said he hopes the meeting would give an opportunity to discuss bilateral relations between the countries on various levels.
The Korean Peninsula is in a state of crisis not only due to constant US threats towards North Korea, but also due to various provocative actions, such as Washington conducting joint military exercises with Seoul amid tensions, and which Pyongyang considered a threat to its national security.
