The head of the Russian delegation to the Astana talks, Alexander Lavrentiev, said today that the parties involved in the talks in Astana on settlement of the Syrian crisis, are close to reach an agreement on establishing the fourth de-escalation zone in Syria's Idleb province.
During Thursday's press conference, Lavrentiev said that the tripartite committee, including Russia, Iran and Turkey on all de-escalation zones in Syria, has also been agreed.
The monitoring of the situation in the proposed de-escalation zone in Idleb will reportedly be carried out by Russia, Iran and Turkey, the three countries that are acting as guarantors of the whole process. He also referred to the nomination of Lebanon, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates as observers in the Astana process.
He, however, said that the issue of Kurds was not discussed during the Astana talks, noting that it is scheduled to be addressed in future meetings. The head of the Russian delegation also said that the next Syria session in Astana will be held at the end of October.
“We are ready to send peacekeeping forces to Syria if the Security Council should adopt such a resolution. We can send troops to the critical areas only in accordance with the decision of parliament, and in accordance with the Constitution”, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said, noting that forces of the CTSO will likely not participate in such areas.
“The United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Iraq and China may join the list of observer countries of the Astana negotiations process on Syria”, the Russian news agency Sputnik quoted one of the internal sources.
According to the source, there are requests from a number of countries that the reconstruction process of Syria should soon be launched, and there are proposals coming from the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Iraq and China.
Early reports claim that representatives of the guarantor states (Russia, Turkey and Iran) said they were discussing do add more countries as observers to the process in Astana, as currently only the United States and Jordan are enjoying the status of observer states.
Yesterday evening, all delegations participating in the sixth round of negotiations on the settlement of the Syrian crisis, arrived in Astana, including 24 representatives of the armed terrorist groups, belonging to the so-called Syrian opposition, as well as the UN Special Envoy to Syria, Staffan de Mistura, and Acting Assistant Secretary of State.
The sixth round of negotiations kicked out today, and saw the participation of 24 representatives of the Erdogan regime-backed terrorist groups, according to Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
