In a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Merkel, Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed on the possibility of deploying UN peacekeepers, and not only on the contact line in the Donbass. This is reported by TASS.
"Taking into account the views expressed by Angela Merkel, the Russian leader noted readiness to supplement the functions of the UN mission proposed in the Russian draft resolution to the Security Council. It is understood that providing protection for OSCE observers by the UN can be carried out not only on the contact line after the restraining of the forces and assets of both sides, but also in other places where the OSCE special monitoring mission conducts its inspection trips in accordance with the Minsk complex of measures," reported the Kremlin press service.
They also noted that Vladimir Putin spoke in detail about the Russian initiative to establish a UN mission to promote the protection of the OSCE special monitoring mission. In particular, the implementation of the Minsk agreements on the settlement of the conflict between the Donbas and Ukraine was also touched upon.
"The unacceptability of any violations of the ceasefire regime that undermine the so-called "school truce" agreed in the Contact Group and supported by the leaders of the states of the "Normandy Format"was emphasized, the release says.
Today, Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for the Russian president, responding to a question about the possibility of holding a meeting in the "Normandy Format" in connection with Vladimir Putin's proposal to introduce a peacekeeping mission to Donbass said that there are no decisions to hold negotiations in the "Normandy Format".
Recall, September 9, Ukraine submitted to the UN Security Council its own draft resolution on peacekeepers.
It should be noted that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Russia's proposal for peacekeepers on the contact line in Donbass does not mean the involvement of UN forces, but only protection for OSCE observers. In addition, Sergei Lavrov, at a meeting with the French Foreign Minister, said that work is currently under way on a new resolution of the UN Security Council on peacekeepers in the Donbass and it is too early to say what form it will take.
Recall also that the other day Poroshenko called his conditions for the deployment of UN peacekeepers in the Donbass. A few days earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine set out requirements necessary for the introduction of a peacekeeping mission to the Donbass: the withdrawal of the so-called "occupation forces" and the absence of Russian personnel in the mission.
