Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu has visited the Syrian capital city of Damascus today and met with the President Bashar Al Assad, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
The two men discussed military and technical cooperation between Russia and Syria, the Ministry said.
The Russian Defense Ministry spokesman said the talks between Shoygu and Assad were focused on stabilizing the situation in Syria, the future of de-escalation zones, and providing humanitarian and other assistance to the population in need.
The two also praised successes of the Syrian and Russian forces on the ground, as most recently seen in the eastern province of Deir Ez Zour, where the Syrian Army, backed by Russian Air Force, managed to lift the siege that was since 2014 imposed on the provincial capital by ISIS terrorists.
