The ISIS Hunters, an elite unit of the Syrian Army, has announced on its social media that for the first time in years, pro-Syrian government forces have reached the northern side of the Euphrates river at Deir Ezzor.
Although the Syrian Army has continuously made raids on the opposite of the river to battle ISIS, it has not made a permanent foothold. Finally there! #ISIS_Hunters are first to traverse and intrench on the left side of #Euphrates #ISIS #Syria #DeirEzzor #ديرالزور #سوريا http://pic.twitter.com/aKETvpqgS0— ISIS Hunters (@ISIS_Hunters) September 18, 2017
This spells trouble for the terrorist groups as both the Syrian Army and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces are conducting operations against ISIS on this side of the river.
