Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro, speaking at the Constituent Assembly on Thursday, said that the Latin American country will "free" itself from the US dollar hegemon next week and use other currencies.
“If they pursue us with the dollar, we’ll use the Russian ruble, the yuan, yen, the Indian rupee, the euro,” Maduro said.
“Venezuela is going to implement a new system of international payments and will create a basket of currencies to free us from the dollar,” he said, without elaborating.
This announcement comes as Maduro raised the country's minimum wage by 40% and announced that dozens of "essential" items and services will have a prize freeze imposed.
