At least 61 people were killed and 200 left injured in the series of Taliban terror attacks that devastated the Afghan provinces of Paktia and Ghazni.

In Gardez, the capital city of Paktia province, cars were detonated and several gunmen stormed the police headquarters, killing at least 33 people and wounding 160 others. Five of the attackers were also killed.

Officials confirmed that the attack targeted the police training center right to the headquarters. Death toll is expected to increase. 

A provincial chief of police was also killed in the attack.

Allam Mir Bahram, a member of the provincial council of Paktia, said the gunmen detonated two cars near the police training center, noting that the number of casualties is likely to increase.

The Interior Ministry said in a statement that the security forces killed at least five of the attackers.

The terrorist group also attacked a district center in the neighbouring province of Ghazni and detonated several armored Humvee vehicles rigged with explosives in the vicinity of the provincial governor’s office.

Local officials said at least 15 members of the security forces were killed and 12 more were left injured, in addition to 13 civilians being killed and 7 left injured.
