Damascus welcomes the efforts of the Iraqi government in Baghdad to restore its central authority to the province of Kirkuk and the rest of the country.
“Syria welcomes the efforts of the brotherly government of Iraq to restore its central authority to the province of Kirkuk and the rest of the country and looks forward to the retreat of separatist groups, while hoping that separatists and their supporters will eventually back off from their plans of dividing Iraq”, The Syrian National News Agency SANA quoted an official source from the Syrian Foreign Ministry as saying.
“Syria reaffirms its support for Iraq's efforts to combat terrorism, establish state sovereignty and strengthen cooperation between the two countries amid their common war on terror”, the source added.
Yesterday, the Iraqi Forces liberated the oil-rich city of Kirkuk that has been under occupation of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Peshmerga units for the past three years.
