Several US media outlets have reported on the heavy shooting that allegedly took place inside Howard University campus in Washington D.C. as police rushed to the scene.
The university leadership confirmed that the police were conducting a security operation on campus, requiring all students and staff to remain in their places until further notice.
In a Twitter message, Howard University said they had received an anonymous report of a potential shooter on campus around noon, noting that administration building was evacuated.
To grant safety, the police has closed the streets surrounding the campus.
Later, however, the police said they found no evidence of an attacker or shots being fired and have lifted a lockdown on campus since.
Founded in the late 1800s, Howard University is a private and historically black university.
