The Iraqi Army made an official announcement on Wednesday morning, saying its mission to restore security and stability to Kirkuk province is now accomplished.
The Iraqi Forces are once again in control of all the oil fields, airports and government facilities in the province.
On Sunday, the joint coalition of the Iraqi Forces, consisting of the Iraqi Army and the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), Iraq’s largest paramilitary group, began a military campaign to liberate Kirkuk from the occupation of Peshmerga, the military force of the Iraqi Autonomous Kurdistan province that has held the city under occupation since June 2014.
The next day, the Iraqi Forces managed to liberate the oil-rich city of Kirkuk, following the withdrawal of Peshmerga troops who also lost several of their combatants in clashes with the PMU.
