The northern Syrian city of Raqqah has been fully cleared of ISIS by the US-backed and Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), according to the London-based so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).

After reportedly taking control of the National Hospital in Raqqah, which used to serve as the main ISIS HQ in the city, SDF fighters took down the ISIS flag which was previously flying in the center of the city.

SDF have also captured the sport stadium in Raqqah.

The military operations have since ended and dismantling the land mines and IEDs is underway.

At the moment, none of these claims can be independently verified by Fort Russ.

On Sunday, it was reported that ISIS terrorists surrendered Raqqah to SDF, with only about 200-300 of them (mostly foreign citizens) remaining in the city.

From 2014 to 2017, Raqqah was de-facte capital of the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

Back in June 2014, ISIS moved its capital from Raqqah to Mayadeen, a town in the eastern countryside of Deir Ez Zour province, and which was last week liberated by the Syrian Army.
