More than 300 soldiers from Syrian Army’s Special Mission Forces were transported from the Qamishli Military Airport to the eastern province of Deir Ez Zour, the Syrian Interior Ministry said on Saturday.

The soldiers were sent to Deir Ez Zour province in order to participate in forthcoming offensive to finally liberate the town of Abu Kamal, the last remaining ISIS hub in the province.

It shall be noted that none of these soldiers belong to the regular Syrian Army troops, rather, they are part of an elite unit which is being controlled directly by the Syrian Interior Ministry.

The Special Mission Forces units are specialized in urban warfare and will play a crucial role once the Syrian Army enters Abu Kamal.

Meanwhile, the US-backed and Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) began to make deliberate advancements towards Abu Kamal in an attempt to beat the Syrian Army.

By capturing the border town of Abu Kamal, SDF would gain control over the most important border crossing between Syria and Iraq.
