Lebanese Army units conducted several raids in Dar El Wasaah area, located in the Beqaa Governorate of Lebanon, on Saturday following the abduction of a Saudi citizen.
Security sources said that large quantities of narcotics, weapons, ammunition and military equipment got seized during the raids.
The sources added that the army units were attacked while conducting their mission. This forced them to respond to the source of fire, which resulted in three of the gunmen being injured.
“The raids were carried out by the Army in Dar El Wasaah and were related to the abduction of a Saudi citizen”, military sources said, adding that they are still searching for the abducted Saudi citizen and his captors.
The Saudi Embassy in Beirut issued a statement on Friday, saying its citizen got kidnapped in Lebanon.
The Embassy noted that it was communicating with the Lebanese security authorities at the highest level to assure that the kidnapped Saudi citizen will be released as soon as possible.
The abducted Saudi citizen has since been identified as a 32-year-old Abd Al Shamrawi, and was reportedly attacked at his Mount Lebanon residence on Thursday evening. He is married to a Syrian national named Fasila Azir. Together they share a home in Al Aqiba, Keserwan, located in Mount Lebanon Governorate.
