DAMASCUS, Syria - A humanitarian convoy supervised by the Red Cross and Red Crescent has entered the jihadist heartland of Douma in Damascus countryside after an agreement with the Syrian government was made.
The Jaish al-Islam terror group agreed to stop shelling civilian areas of Damascus in exchange for the aid convoy and for discussions on a prisoner exchange program.
The convoy of 26 trucks delivered basic medical necessities such as medicine and vaccines, as well as other humanitarian aid.
The Saudi-backed Jaish al-Islam are considered the strongest jihadist group operating in the Damascus countryside.
