The Armed Forces of Ukraine suffered 12 men killed and 14 wounded in an unsuccessful attempt to break through the Donetsk People’s Republic’s lines near the village of Kominternovo in the south of the republic. This has been announced by the deputy commander of the DPR, Eduard Basurin.

“It is important to note that the losses of Ukrainian troops on March 20th near Kominternovo amounted to 12 personnel dead and 14 servicemen wounded, and two infantry fighting vehicles and a tank damaged,” the commander reported.

Basurin added that the republic’s troops managed to evacuate the body of one of the killed Ukrainian troops and another wounded who, despite aid, subsequently died from injuries.

“The majority of the bodies of Ukrainian fighters were abandoned after the failed attack directly near our positions as their commanders and comrades fled from the battlefield. That the bodies of dead Ukrainian soldiers were found at our positions clearly confirms that this was an attempt at an offensive by UAF forces,” Basurin added.

Yesterday it was reported that Ukrainian sabotage-reconnaissance groups comprising forces of up to two platoons attempted to break through DPR positions near Kominternovo under the cover of mortar fire and armored vehicles. The enemy was forced to retreat to its starting positions, having lost 10 men, including dead and wounded.
